Project Description

Junior Chamber International (JCI)

Besides discovering and developing talent, Klebert has also worked hard on his personal development. He did so by actively participating in youth organizations such as the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Program and other youth organizations. He was looking to develop his leadership qualities and social skills. In 2012 he met with JCI Suriname and joined the men’s division, JCI Nilom, not knowing that here many opportunities and successes were waiting for him.

JCI is an international network organization the provides leadership development opportunity to young people between the age of 18 and 40 years. The mission of the organization is to encourage young people to “positive change in communities around the world,” the focus is: the individual (training, coaching), the community (community activities), international meetings, and business and networking events. JCI was founded in 1915 in St. Louis, USA by Henry Giessenbier. The organization has over 170,000 members operating in more than 120 countries and in more than 5000 cities (local centers). Some former members are; John F. Kennedy, Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton. In Suriname, the organization consists of more than 160 active members, a few hundred senators, 6 local chambers and the national board. As a member you are recognized for embracing new ideas, collaboration and commitment to diversity. As leaders, young people are encouraged to develop positive change and to create potential projects which lead to sustainable development. This is what appealed to him. He seized various challenges combined with different experiences and many opportunities: 2014 Local Director – JCI Nilom / 2015 Local Vice President – JCI Nilom / 2016 Local President – JCI Nilom / 2017 National Vice President – JCI Suriname / 2018 National Deputy President – JCI Suriname / 2019 National President – JCI Suriname / 2020 Immediate Past National President – JCI Suriname.

Many of the aspects that Klebert learned was mutual brotherhood, long term projects to fill leadership roles for serving the organization and the community. He not only has been active on the local level, but also internationally. He successfully participated in many training courses and conferences. 2016 JCI American Leadership Academy – Punta del Este, Uruguay / 2016 JCI Conference of the Americas – Punta del Este, Uruguay / 2017 JCI Conference of the Americas – Punta Cana, Dominican Republic / 2017 JCI World Congress – Amsterdam, Netherlands / 2018 JCI Conference of the Americas – Miami, USA / 2018 JCI Academy – Himeji, Japan / 2018 JCI Dutch Caribbean Conference – Oranjestad, Aruba / 2018 JCI World Congress – GOA, India
